Takeout has anchored the restaurant industry since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. With indoor dining not allowed in many states, many restaurants changed their service style in order to make money.
The way takeout works is that you will often place your order at a restaurant on their website or on the phone. Once the order is placed, the restaurant staff will give you an estimate of how long it will take to prepare the food. It is expected that you will be there to pick up the food once it is ready.
The method for picking up food will depend on the restaurant but there are mainly two types: carside and walk-in. For car side pick up, you should park near the restaurant so an employee can deliver the food to you in your car. There is no need for you to leave your car for this method. This method is designed to be the most convenient for people driving to pick up their food. For a walk-in pick-up, you will have to go inside to get your order yourself.
Both of these options are designed to make the process very easy for customers since restaurants don’t want to annoy their customers and also save time for their staff.
Delivery and takeout are the opposite of each other. For takeout orders, it is the customer’s responsibility to pick up their own food. For delivery services, it is the restaurant’s or the delivery company’s responsibility to deliver the food.
Delivery services have rapidly gained popularity since the beginning of the pandemic. They were first pioneered in the pizza industry decades ago, but in the past decade, delivery services such as Doordash, GrubHub, Postmates, and Uber Eats have revolutionized the industry. Instead of only offering pizza for delivery, these third-party services offer hundreds of different foods from different restaurants serving different foods, all of which can be delivered to your front door.
It’s as simple as downloading an app on your phone, choosing a restaurant, choosing the items you want, and placing the order. A driver will then deliver the food to your house within the estimated time. It is important to note that most, if not all, delivery services charge a delivery fee so it will be more expensive than picking up food yourself.
